Sally Bacchetta

Personal: Married, with two children, lives in Webster

Occupation: Mother, freelance writer and sales training consultant

Community activities: Board of Directors, Parenthood for Me; Rochester Adoptive Families Examiner. Every December, I organize a homemade holiday cookie drive to benefit St. Peter’s soup kitchen in Rochester. With the help of friends and family, I deliver several hundred homemade holiday cookies to St. Peter’s each year. I also participate in a variety of community events through the Social Ministry program at Peace of Christ Parish in Rochester, including CROP Walk, Birthright Walk for Life, Crib of Life and Habitat for Humanity.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Hike, play and meditate at Lake Ontario, local parks and inconspicuous patches of wilderness.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Writing my book (What I Want My Adopted Child to Know: An Adoptive Parent’s Perspective) while raising two young children and running my business was as close to insanity as I ever hope to come. I was driven by my absolute belief in the need for such a book and my need to write it, so I knew I had to find a way to make it happen.

I’ve worked from a home office since our daughter was born, and I had already gotten the knack of constantly shifting priorities and successfully conducting my writing business around the rest of my life. When I added writing my book to the mix I found I needed to use every sliver of time I could find.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Learn to play the violin (I play flute and piano).

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: I would be able to function at the top of my game with very little sleep.

The talent I would most like to have: I would like to master the art of sand sculpture.

The one thing I can’t live without: I can’t think of anything I can’t live without. I’m grateful that humans are infinitely adaptable; it allows me to always regain my balance and ultimately embrace any circumstance.

My favorite movie: Impossible for me to choose. Some of the movies I’ve really enjoyed are The Sound of Music (the first movie I saw in a theater), Usual Suspects, The Godfather series, Gone With the Wind, Benny and June, Schindler’s List, and Oleanna.

One of my favorite sayings is: It is what it is.

A person who has inspired me (and why): My husband Dennis. He is a gifted visionary who is also incredibly attentive to detail. I have learned a lot from him about developing a solid infrastructure ... for my business as a whole as well as for individual projects and the marketing and promotion of my book. Dennis developed both my freelance writer website (www.SallyBacchetta.com) and my adoptive parent book website (www.TheAdoptiveParent.com). What inspires me most about Dennis is his commitment to simply doing what has to get done and doing it as well as possible.
