Angella Luyk

Personal: 36 of Irondequoit; married.

Occupation: CEO Midnight Janitorial Inc.

Community activities: Junior Achievement volunteer, JSEC Department of Labor Employers Committee Vice President, Rochester Women’s Network Orientation Committee, Free Networking Committee Chair, Co Founder Free Net (www.freenetrochester.com) Red Cross Mix and Mingle Sponsor, Ethics Committee Judging Panel, Henrietta Chamber member, RAEN judging committee

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: I love to network. Rochester has such a diverse business community. You can meet a new group of people everyday. There is so much we can learn from each other. As a people person I enjoy going out and meeting people and helping them connect with others.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: The biggest challenge I’ve overcome is becoming a successful business owner with no business background. I chose to do things differently. I listened to what my employees wanted, what my clients were looking for and made it work. I read a lot of business books and met with some amazing women for advice. I knew I was on the right path when my company was chosen the 2009 (National) Business Ethics Award winner. I followed my heart in business. My motto: People before Profit.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: I have always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon. To be so close to the clouds -- it would be such a freeing experience.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: When I talk about a topic I am passionate about, I start talking really fast. I always tell myself to slow down, but my mouth just doesn’t want to listen.

The talent I would most like to have: I would love to be able to play the piano. I love to listen to piano music. It can be romantic, relaxing or lively. Unfortunately, I am tone deaf. So I will just have to continue to buy CDs and imagine I am up on that stage playing my heart out.

The one thing I can’t live without: My husband Harry. He has taught me so much about unconditional love. No matter how sick and awful I looked, he always told me how beautiful I am. When I was in pain from IVs being put in, he would distract me by telling me about the shoes he would by me when we were done. He finds little ways to make me smile, to make me feel like I am the most important person in the world. He is my rock, and I am truly blessed to have him in my life.

The song that best describes my life: Miley Cyrus, The Climb.

One of my favorite sayings is: There are no mistakes in life, just lessons learned.

Actress I’d like to portray me in a movie about my life: Michelle Pfeiffer when she starred in Dangerous Minds.
